Cavatina, a piece steeped in pop culture, revealed.

Modern works for guitar that are accessible, popular, and essential for developing technique — all at the same time — can be hard to come across. Composed by Stanley Myers for piano and popularized as the main theme of the ‘80s classic film "The Deer Hunter," Cavatina is challenging yet approachable, with many musicianship elements to unlock. Learn John Williams’ famous guitar transcription from one of his prominent students, esteemed concert artist Xuefei Yang.

  • Develop key aspects of musicianship such as legato, left-hand shifting, and tone.

  • Discover new ways to think about playing a melody and accompaniment together.

  • Learn an approachable, skill-building work you’ll be proud to play for others.
